LETTER: More complaints about 911 vote

| December 17, 2015 11:00 AM

Gritting my teeth, I will mail my “protest” to the Board of County Commissioners regarding the creation of the 911 Special District.

I smell a rat, but I think I’m the one who has been trapped. Since when can a tiny group of people just decide to create a new tax (amounts not yet determined for many) when the people just voted NO to that tax a short time ago?

Since when can this tiny group collect addresses on these “votes”? Does anyone doubt the database these protests will create? Since when can this group just decide that anyone who doesn’t send in the “protest” must be in favor of the new tax? If a person doesn’t take the initiative to mail in his vote, that’s a YES for the tax.

Dale Petersen had a thorough letter in the Dec. 11 Inter Lake regarding this issue, and I urge people to read that letter for more specific objections and specific suggestions of alternatives as well.

This move by the Board of Commissioners strikes me as a perfect example of “taxation without representation.” Hmmm, have I heard that phrase somewhere before? —Cinda Wilson, Marion
