LETTER: Iranians friendly

| December 20, 2015 11:00 AM

A few years ago I went to Iran to see for myself if what I was reading in our newspapers about that country was true. It wasn’t!

Of all the countries that I have been to in the world, Iran was without a doubt the friendliest. Everywhere we went young people of high school and college age would pose questions about the USA and were anxious to compare our two countries. They had lots of interests and were just eager to learn whatever they could about us and our home life.

People would come up to us and ask if we were enjoying our visit, and then they would ask if there was anything they could do to help us.

Once my niece and I were lost, and looking at a map. A man stopped by to see if he could help us. We told him that we were looking for a place to buy a latte and he spent about 20 minutes helping us find such a place. That was typical of the experiences that we enjoyed all over the country.

In general it was a wonderful trip and most enlightening. I find it strange that I hear so much anti-Muslim hate around me, when all that I encountered from Iranians was friendliness and helpfulness. —Mary Mumby, Kalispell
