There's nothing romantic about this notebook

An employee of a hotel on North Main Street called the Kalispell Police Department to report that a guest had checked out but left behind a notebook containing “very detailed” information about their drug deals. Officers retrieved the notebook for further investigation.

A manager at a Cooper Lane business called to report that a vehicle had run into a fence and then “almost hit some pedestrians.”

A caller reported an attempted pick-pocketing on Hutton Ranch Road. The caller said the would-be thief didn’t get anything valuable, but wanted to alert police.

A mother called police after finding out her daughter had left the state without permission. The 17-year-old daughter was allegedly on her way to Washington with her boyfriend’s parents. Officers were able to contact the boyfriend’s parents, who said they were unaware that the girl did not have permission to go on a trip with them. The girl was returned to her mother’s custody.

A vehicle reportedly slid off the road and into the ditch near U.S. 93 North and Indian Trail Road. The vehicle didn’t hit anything, but allegedly tried to pass another vehicle and slid out. No injuries were reported.

A concerned passerby called to report a homeless man sleeping under a tarp near Bismark Street and Sunnyside Drive. The caller was worried because it didn’t look like the man had moved that day. Officers found the man to be fine.

A woman called to report a lost wallet, which she believed had been left in a shopping cart at a Third Avenue East North business.

A caller on Whitefish Stage Road reported a driver “spinning brodies.”

A neighbor called police about an open garage and interior door on Empire Loop. The caller said lights were on, but it didn’t appear anyone was home. Officers found nothing amiss, but did close the doors.

A man on North Belmar called to report he and his wife had been beaten up by their son. The son was allegedly staying over for the holiday and “just started in” on the family members.

Kalispell police responded to a vehicle rollover near Three Mile Drive and Blue Crest Drive. The vehicle reportedly slid off the road and then rolled down an embankment. Despite being upside-down, all occupants were able to get out unharmed.

A caller on Teal Drive reported being harassed on social media. The caller stated that a former boss had a male friend that she had been “flirting with.” At some point the male’s girlfriend found out about the flirtations, and allegedly began sending the caller messages on social media, calling her vulgar names. Officers counseled everyone involved.

A Bluestone Drive resident called to report a barking dog.

A Fifth Street West resident called to report someone trying to open the door. The resident said she did not know the would-be trespasser and wasn’t expecting anyone. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

An employee of a West Idaho Street business called to report a female shoplifter.

A Merganser Drive resident called to report that a bike had been stolen out of his garage overnight. The caller said he didn’t think the garage was unlocked, but there were no signs of forced entry either. He also said bike tire tracks could be seen in the snow where it was taken out of the garage.

A woman on South Meadows Drive called to report that her mother had slapped her husband and that a verbal fight was ongoing. Responding officers found that the mother was upset because the daughter and her family had arrived late for the planned holiday celebration. No charges were filed, but the couple and their children left the mother’s house until everyone’s tempers could cool down.

A Fifth Avenue West resident reported neighborhood kids playing on a snow pile in the alley, causing snow to fall back into her driveway. She was concerned that the displaced snow would make it difficult for her to get out of her driveway, and requested assistance getting the kids to stop.

A Seventh Avenue East resident called to complain about a noisy snow plow. The caller thought the noise was so bad, they wanted to file charges against the plow driver. The plow truck was gone by the time officers arrived.

A business on U.S. 93 South reportedly received a counterfeit $5 bill.

A Fifth Avenue East resident reported that her vehicle had been egged overnight.

A California Street resident reported two guns had been stolen from his home.


A woman called the Whitefish Police Department to report several missing children. The group of youths had reportedly been playing in the callers yard, but had then disappeared. After following some tracks in the snow and with assistance from her sister-in-law, all the children were found safe.

A passerby on Central Avenue called to report a belligerent man standing in front of a bar. The man allegedly knocked food out of the caller’s hand, unprovoked. Officers were unable to find anyone matching the suspect’s description.

An employee at another Central Avenue establishment called to report a “huge fight” going on inside the bar. Officers responded and all involved parties were separated. There were no serious injuries and no one wanted to press charges.

A Great Northern Drive resident called to report someone had thrown eggs at her front door, then rang the bell and ran away. The woman’s car had been hit by eggs as well. There was no permanent damage caused, and officers were unable to find the troublemakers.

A patron of a Central Avenue business reported her cell phone and a prescription medication had been stolen from her purse.


A Sixth Street West resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report stolen license plates.

Officers investigating a vehicle on Ninth Street West with flashers on found out the car had just run out of gas. The driver had help already on the way.

Officers assisted another motorist who had slid off the road on Fourth Avenue West. The vehicle was freed from the ditch and the driver was advised to drive in accordance with road conditions.


The Columbia Falls Fire Department responded to a fuel spill on U.S. 2 West.
