Griz sign Sandry, Harris
MISSOULA — Bigfork safety Josh Sandry and Glacier defensive end Andrew Harris headline the Flathead Valley additions to an extremely-talented class who will play for the University of Montana next season.
Sandry, a 6-foot-1, 190 pound athlete, was an all-state selection at safety and quarterback his senior season at Bigfork, leading the Vikings to the semifinals of the Class B playoffs. He’s an all-around athlete that has also been named all-state in track and basketball, being named co-MVP of the state basketball tournament last season in helping Bigfork to its first state title.
Harris, at 6-3, 215, is a legacy Griz, the fifth member of his family to suit up for Montana, following in the footsteps of his father and three older brothers. As one of the top pass-rushing threats for the Wolfpack this season, Harris had 91.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks and three fumble recoveries, causing quarterback hurries on nine more occasions and leading the team with 11 tackles for loss.
The two are part of a 19-player class that is stocked with talent, pulling in high-end recruits from all over the map.
Corvallis defensive end Jesse Sims, listed at 6-4, 235-pounds, was once committed to Oregon State before a coaching change caused him to consider his options. Sims picked the nearby Griz over offers from Oregon State and Nebraska.
Missoula Big Sky tight end Colin Bingham, Butte wide receiver and state sprint champion Dalton Daum and Billings Central wide receiver Holden Ryan also join the class as in-state recruits.
New head coach Bob Stitt also brought in a pair of out-of-state receivers and four offensive linemen, along with a pair of college transfers. Chad Chalich, a quarterback transfer from the University of Idaho, threw for 491 yards in two seasons for the Vandals. Markell Sanders, a cornerback, joins the Griz from Washington State.
