The first public hearing for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Water Compact has been scheduled for Monday in room 303 at the Capitol Building in Helena before the Senate Judiciary Committee at 8 a.m.

The bill is SB 262. You may voice your concerns about the compact in person at the hearing or you may call the Capitol and have your message delivered to the committee members by calling 406-444-4800 or online at www.leg.mt.gov where your message will be printed and delivered to committee members. It is important for our legislators in Helena to know how Montanans feel about the important decisions they are about to make, so please take a few minutes and communicate your thoughts.

My message today was to Senate Judiciary Committee members: Please VOTE NO ON SB 262. If you like, you are free to type up to 250 words in the online message format explaining your stance. It only takes a few minutes to either call the above number or email or send a fax to 406-444-4875.

The compact is a forever document and legislators have definitely not got to the bottom of it at this point in time. There is a cram-down planned, and our calls and emails can stop that, and demand closer scrutiny of the document and the needed understanding before votes are cast. —Debbie Biolo, Whitefish
