Lights out in Whitefish

| February 14, 2015 8:00 PM

Whitefish traffic lights and bars went dark on Friday night, leaving 2,400 electricity customers without power. Downtown Whitefish went completely black at 5:54 p.m., and the electricity was out until about 8:10 p.m., according to Wendy Ostrom-Price, public relations with Flathead Electric. The outage was caused by an equipment failure at their main Whitefish station, which feeds all distribution. The failure took two hours to repair. Several brief power outages took place in the surrounding area during the repairs.

Calls to the Whitefish Police Department reported that there were some “unruly guests” a hotel on U.S. 93. The rowdy guests in question had come back from the bar and were talking loudly, disturbing other guests. Responding officers advised the rambunctious party to “keep it down.”

A man reported his car stolen to the Columbia Falls Police Department. However, the theft took place two years ago, and the thief in question was the man’s ex-wife. The man had been in and out of jail, and did not have time to retrieve the car.

A young male called dispatch after taking “recreational drugs,” saying he was having a nervous breakdown. The male was transported to the hospital.

Three $50 counterfeit bills were reportedly used as payment at a business on U.S. 93, reported to the Kalispell Police Department.

A woman was fading in and out of consciousness after she took prescription pills as part of a “detox.”

A man was reportedly “harassing” another person during Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in Kalispell.
