Yoga pants bill made state butt of jokes
Why do we continue to elect people to the Montana House and Senate that refuse to think out the ramifications of their proposed legislative bills?
Our great state again is the target of mockery on major networks, cable stations, news outlets and social media. House Bill 365 by Rep. David Moore, R-Missoula, to expand indecent exposure laws has caused the latest uproar nationwide. In part, the bill would ban any nipple exposure including men. Can you imagine no shirts-skins basketball games, let alone having to ban all male topless swimming at our pools and lakes. In fact under this bill one could face fines and arrests.
Rep. Moore also wants to ban yoga pants. When I Googled HB 364 I found 4,790 articles or stories just the first day, none very flattering to Mr. Moore or our state. I thought with the flap over the House dress code in December that members of the House would wanted to avoid making Montana the butt of jokes again.
Fortunately the House Judiciary Committee tabled the bill. However the damage was already done, let alone the wasted time and money spent considering this bill. Hopefully now in the short time remaining in the 90-day session the representatives will thoughtfully tackle the major issues that really matter to our Montana citizens. —Dennis Flagen, Dayton
