Sparkler bomb goes off in vehicle tailpipe

A sparkler bomb exploded in the exhaust pipe of a maintenance vehicle at Whitefish Mountain Resort over the weekend.

The pickup truck had been parked in the same spot for a few days, so the sparkler bomb could have been lit off anytime between Saturday and Monday, according to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry.

No one was hurt and the vehicle sustained some minor paint damage. No suspects have been named yet.

Curry said sparkler bombs are fairly common in the area as they can be made fairly easily using sparklers — small fireworks generally used by children around the Fourth of July.
