A Flathead Valley man was airlifted off of Big Mountain on Thursday after a skiing accident.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said the man was skiing out of bounds near Whitefish Mountain Resort on Thursday afternoon when he crashed near a tree, breaking both bones in his leg.

Two Bear Air hoisted the man off the mountain and flew him to Glacier Park International Airport, where Evergreen Ambulance picked him up and took him to the hospital.

North Valley Search and Rescue and the Nordic Ski Patrol also were dispatched.
