A garage was heavily damaged in a fire Friday afternoon in the Evergreen area.

Firefighters from Evergreen, Kalispell and South Kalispell departments were dispatched to the fire on Plentywood Drive around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

The fire affected a garage attached to a house. A woman and two children escaped safely from the home. No one was injured.

The fire was under control in about 35 minutes, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue Chief Craig Williams.

Although the fire is under investigation, Williams said he believed it originated from a chimney that extended into the attic of the garage.

Williams said there was heavy fire damage to the garage, which contained two vehicles, and said the contents were “a total loss.”

The house had extensive smoke damage.
