MISSOULA (AP) — A Lake County man with several outstanding felony warrants was arrested after reportedly firing a shot at an off-duty tribal law enforcement officer who tried to apprehend him on Tuesday.

Officers with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe arrested 39-year-old James Wilson Allen about two hours later as he hid in the back bedroom of a house.

Sheriff Don Bell says tribal policeman T.J. Hanes spotted Allen, knew he was wanted and tried to apprehend him.

Officers believe Allen fired a shot from a .22-caliber pistol at Hanes and fled. Bell says Hanes dove to the ground and was not hit.

Officers followed Allen’s tracks to the trailer where he was arrested.

Bell says the county attorney’s office will determine what charges to file against Allen.
