Bigfork High School won the Northern Class B Divisonal speech championship last weekend in Shelby.

The team scored 52 sweepstakes points for the speech win and placed third in drama with 28 points.

Bigfork wraps up its season this weekend at the state meet in Ennis. Bigfork head coach Charlie Appleby said the team has a shot at state with Stacey Poulson, divisional champion in Serious Oral Interpretation; Shannon Frizzell in Memorized Public Address; Sierra Curtiss in Original Oratory, Elizabeth Kalenak in Humorous Oral Interpretation and Sam Smit in Impromptu.

“If I am right, I have conditioned them for this with the season we just had, going against AA and A schools and Loyola as many weeks as possible, but it’s tough for new kids to do well at state,” Appleby said. “I think that our drama team has the possibility of doing just as well at state as they did at divisionals. The Northern Division is quite tough in drama, especially when you are competing at great drama schools like Malta and Shelby. The competition was fierce and our kids rose to the challenge.”

Appleby was also voted by Class B coaches as the division speech coach of the year.

Individual results from the divisional tournament are:
