Kennel proposed north of Kalispell

A commercial dog kennel and caretaker’s facility planned north of Kalispell will be considered by the Flathead County Board of Adjustment on July 7.

Christie Becker of Kalispell, on behalf of property owners David and Ruth Fretz, is asking for a conditional-use permit to build the kennel and dog day-care facility on 24.6 acres in the Warner Hills subdivision off U.S. 93, across from Glacier Business Center and near Majestic Valley Arena.

The property is zoned suburban agricultural with a 10-acre minimum lot size.

Becker said in her application she estimates the business would employ four people, with about 20 to 30 customers per day. Dogs would not be outside prior to 7:30 a.m. or after 9 p.m. There won’t be any outside kennel runs, though dogs would spend time in an outside play yard on an alternating basis, Becker stated.

The kennel would cover 3,200 square feet, with an 80-by-50-foot fenced yard and 800-square-foot caretaker’s facility.

The board will hold a public decision before voting on the kennel request.

In other business, the board will hold a public hearing to consider Ptarmigan Homeowners Association’s request for a conditional-use permit to establish multiple principal uses at the terminus of Ptarmigan Boulevard on Big Mountain near Whitefish.

The homeowners association wants to add professional offices to the property, which already contains a swimming-pool facility.

The board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, in the second-floor conference room of the Earl Bennett Building, 1035 First Ave. W. in Kalispell.

Board of Adjustment decisions are not subject to further consideration by the county commissioners.
