Michael Paul 'Mike' Syverson, 54

| July 1, 2015 6:57 PM

Michael Paul “Mike” Syverson was born on Nov. 6, 1960, to Keith Wilson Syverson and Kathe Syverson at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

Mike died in Butte in the early morning hours of May 21, 2015, of natural causes.

Mike attended grade school and high school in Bigfork. After high school graduation, he attended college in Havre hoping to become a science teacher but he did not graduate. Mike returned home and spent all but the last year in Bigfork, first caring for his father, then after his father’s death, caring for his mother. Without Mike’s assistance, his mother would not have been able to stay home in her final years.

In late 2014, after his mother’s death, Mike experienced a deep emotional collapse and depression. He was brought to Marquis Vintage Suites in Butte so he could receive the care he needed and be closer to his remaining family.  When he walked through the doors of the Marquis he could barely speak.   During his time at the Marquis, Mike began to heal. Within a few short months he had regained his sense of humor and wit.

Mike is survived by his brother, Mark Syverson, and his sister-in-law, Noorjahan Parwana.

We would like to thank the many people who cared for Mike and enriched his last months — the great staff at Marquis, his therapist Mike Judd, and the many doctors and healthcare providers who helped Mike start living again.

Mike enjoyed the company of a number of dogs and, most recently, a cat, Blackie, over his lifetime. If anyone feels moved to remember Mike, please consider making a gift to your local shelter or, better yet, adopt an animal that needs a home.
