Whitefish picks new public works director

A Wisconsin man has been hired to replace Whitefish Public Works Director John Wilson, who recently resigned to take the lead public works job for the city of Missoula.

Craig Workman will begin work in Whitefish in August. He has been the director of public works for the city of Burlington, Wisconsin, since 2012.

During his time there he oversaw a major wastewater treatment plant upgrade and downtown street renovation. He also helped Burlington regain its quiet zone status with the Federal Railroad Commission.

Prior to his work in Burlington, Workman spent nearly a decade as the director of public works for the village of Fontana-on-Geneva Lake, Wisconsin, where he led a $35 million community development project to upgrade the village’s aging infrastructure.

He has a degree in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and spent the early part of his career working as an environmental protection specialist for the state of Colorado.

From 1998 to 2003 he was project manager for Handex Environmental in New Berlin, Wisconsin, where he was accountable for the environmental management of about 30 projects.
