The Polson Chamber of Commerce is still planning a fireworks show this evening at dusk, but officials said late Friday the show still could be canceled if winds become too strong.

“We have a plan and a team, Polson Chamber of Commerce Manager Amber Pacheco-Holm said in a press release Friday afternoon. “We are confident in our plan. Safety is our number one concern. We are doing everything possible to safely provide a community show.”

Crews will be watering the fairgrounds throughout the day. Fireworks will be shot out over Flathead Lake to avoid embers falling to the ground, she said.

Fire trucks will be on standby at the fairgrounds and strategically placed around town.

Despite the precautions, Pacheco-Holm cautioned that the Chamber may decide to cancel the show even at the last minute if the weather deteriorates. The National Weather Service issued a red-flag warning Friday afternoon for gusty winds and low humidity across Northwest Montana.

Updates will be posted on the Polson Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page and event page: July 4th in Polson.

In Flathead County, all fireworks use including community displays have been banned because of the very high fire danger and the threat of windy conditions.
