Officers counsel ex-spouses

A woman on Wedgewood Lane called the Whitefish Police Department on her “out of control” ex-husband who came over to pick up things from her house. She reportedly shoved him and he came at her swinging. After the alleged tussling, she phoned police and he took off with one of the kids. Officers counseled the two parties.

An intoxicated pedestrian was harassing vendors and patrons alike at an art festival in Whitefish’s Depot Park. He was described as being very paranoid. He was escorted away from the festival.

Several vehicles were reportedly “ransacked” on Somers Avenue. Things had been moved, the perpetrators had written into dust on dashboard but nothing had been taken or damaged.

A dog was allegedly tied up in the sun on Depot Street without any water. The pup was howling and the caller didn’t see the owner but guessed it might be a transient.

A Centennial Drive resident wanted to report neighbors using fireworks, but officers found out they were making dry ice bombs, which were “harmless,” according to the report.

Dozens of other fireworks reports came in from across town, reporting on illegal explosives.

An intoxicated man was pulled out of a drive-thru line to “wait for his food” while officers were called. The man was struggling to speak or get money for food.

Another drunken driver was weaving on U.S. 93 and cutting off other drivers before parking on Arielle Way.

A man on Central Avenue came back to his truck only to find a stranger sleeping inside. He wanted the man to move on. Officers took him home.


A Boy Scout leader on Talbot Road called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report he would be participating in a flag ceremony that morning. He said his scouts would be firing blanks and not to worry if people called in with gunshot reports.

A woman called into police demanding a ride to Evergreen, but wouldn’t say why. She wouldn’t answer questions, said her name was three initials and her age was “three three” and was possibly on drugs. She began to cry before hanging up. Calls back found that a good Samaritan had given her a ride to Evergreen.

Multiple power line emergencies were reported across the valley, from Kalispell to Columbia Falls to Marion.
