Woman wants to see stars, not headlights

Someone driving near Saddle Loop was confronted by a woman in the middle of the road. She apparently told him that he can’t use his headlights, even at night, on that road because it interferes with the woman’s telescope use. The driver told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Department that this has been an ongoing feud.

A woman needed to fly back to Tennessee but had lost her wallet containing her ID. She said it might have fallen out of the boat on Flathead Lake.

Someone dialed 911, hung up and later told dispatch she just needed her car unlocked.

Another caller asked about “who is liable to pick up horse poop.” An Animal Control officer fielded questions.

Someone called in an apparently suspicious person who was wearing a poncho and was “standing around with hands in his pockets.”

A Riley Lane resident was concerned that a registered sex offender responded to her Craigslist ad about wanting someone to “hang out” with.

There was a report of two men fighting on U.S. 2 near Kalispell. Everyone had taken off by the time deputies arrived.

Animal Control helped reunite an owner with two dogs after a resident found them near Berne Road.

A vehicle with Alberta license plates lost a tire on U.S. 2.

There was a report of several burglaries along U.S. 2 near Columbia Falls.

A concerned driver claimed a pack of pickup trucks were trying to box the caller’s vehicle in and tow it while in motion. This all purportedly took place on U.S. 2.

There was a report of fireworks near Trumble Creek Road. The witness called back with relief — they weren’t shooting fireworks; they were shooting guns.

People at an apparently loud party on Shady Lane said they were celebrating a baptism, but they agreed to shut it down.

There were plenty of calls for suspected fireworks use. The dispatch center received 500 calls from 4 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday. Of those, 213 were fireworks calls.


Someone called the Whitefish Police Department to report a mysterious person sleeping in a truck on Central Avenue with the hazard lights on. The same person called later and accused the sleeper of stealing his national parks pass.

There was a hitchhiker on U.S. 93 that made one nearby resident so uneasy she didn’t want to leave her home.

A Spokane Avenue resident’s yard was a little more bare after some items were reportedly stolen.

Money was reported stolen from a locked vehicle on East Second Street.
