Agnes L. Sunell, 90, passed away July 3, 2015, at her home in Columbia Falls.

Born June 13, 1925, to Roy and Freida Mackin in Glen Ullin, North Dakota, Agnes had eight siblings, William, Verne, Lloyd, Larry, Rose, Mildred, Norman and Doris, most of which resided in Montana and California.

Agnes moved to Apgar in Glacier Park to live with her oldest brother William “Bill” to babysit and work at Apgar Cabins which were owned by Bill.

Agnes married Paul “Blondie” Sunell in 1948. Agnes had one daughter, Lynne, from a previous marriage. Paul had two daughters, Paula and Corolla, from a previous marriage, and they had a son, Conway, together. She took care of Blondie during his long illness of lupus until his death in 1976. Agnes and Blondie built and operated the Skyline Motel in Apgar from 1953 to 1968. She absolutely loved Glacier National Park and the eagles gathering when the salmon were spawning.

Conway’s birthday in August was always a hit with the kids in Apgar because of Agnes’ famous cupcakes.

Agnes enjoyed bowling, pinochle, baking, solitaire and yearly picnics in Glacier National Park.

Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Sunell; her parents, Roy and Freida Mackin; all eight siblings, William, Verne, Lloyd, Larry, Rose, Mildred, Norman and Doris; daughter, Lynne Sawyer; granddaughter, Michele “Missy” Sawyer; and stepdaughter, Corolla.

She is survived by her son, Conway Sunell, his wife Teri, their children Joel and wife Angie, and Kellen and wife Dove and their son Hendriks; grandson, Matthew Sawyer; granddaughter Mandy (Sawyer) Howard, her husband Brett, their children Marcus, Malyssa and husband Shawn, and their daughters Alessandra and Mikayla, and Bethany and fiance Kolton and their son Klayton.

There will be a graveside service for Agnes at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at Woodlawn Cemetery.
