Gladys Cecilia (Barsness) Frost, 84

| July 7, 2015 7:31 PM

Gladys Cecilia (Barsness) Frost, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of Saturday, July 4, 2015, after an extended illness with cancer, which she battled for the last one and a half years of her life.

Gladys was born on Oct. 26, 1930, in Medicine Lake, Montana, to Doveline and Oscar Barsness. Growing up in Medicine Lake, she played a lot of “one-eyed cat” with her brothers Bob and Kenny. She graduated from Medicine Lake High School in 1948 and went on to attend nursing school at the Holy Rosary Unit in Miles City.

She married James Gordon Frost on Nov. 27, 1952, which also happened to be her grandparents 52nd anniversary. She and Gordon owned and operated a 440-acre farm north of Poplar in the Mineral Bench community. On the farm, she had a very large garden, churned butter, raised chickens and baked delicious bread and cinnamon rolls, as well as attempting to keep six kids out of trouble.

In 1969, they sold the farm and moved to Kalispell where she had resided since.  She worked the night shift at Immanuel Lutheran Home for 22 years.

Gladys enjoyed making afghans, crocheting and sewing which she passed on to her daughters. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles with her son. She rarely missed coffee and lunch with her group of friends. Her husband once gave her a gold star for perfect attendance at these weekly gatherings. In her younger years, she enjoyed music and dancing. Later in life, she liked her Country Music Family Reunion DVDs. She loved watching and feeding the birds, especially hummingbirds. She had a large collection of hummer knickknacks and pictures. Gladys especially looked forward to the yearly family reunion and visits from her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She was known to step in as an extra grandma for many and no. 2 mom to some. She willingly helped anyone in need and faithfully donated to Boys Town and other charities.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Gordon; her parents; daughter, Karen; sister, Bernice; and brother, Kenneth.

She is survived by brother, Robert and wife Midge Barsness of Spokane; daughter Jensine and husband Miles Johnson of Hyde Park, Utah; son Thomas Frost, daughters Susan Frost, and Adele and husband Bruce Krause, all of Kalispell, son Russell and wife Kelly of Fallon, Nevada; grandchildren, Kendra Johnson, Reesa and husband Brian Hobbs, Ben Johnson, Travis Krause, Dawson, Allison and Samantha Frost; great-grandchildren, Connor, Ethan, Austin and Juniper Hobbs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews extended family and great friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Winkel, Dr. Wagner and Sandy Shaw and their staffs for their care and concern.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Home Options Hospice of are charity of your choice.

Gladys will be greatly missed, but will be in our hearts forever.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, at C. E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery, Kalispell.  A reception will follow.
