Kalispell road job to wrap up Monday

Pavement work on Fifth Avenue West in Kalispell is expected to be finished Monday, according to a city official.

Kalispell Road Fleet Superintendent Gene Corne said crews are milling the road, which involves replacing the top two inches of asphalt. He said this is done as a preventive measure before more extensive work is needed.

“It saves us half the price of pulling out all the asphalt,” he said.

The work is taking place from Center Street to Sixth Street West. On Thursday, Corne said that crews had started on the final touches.

“We’re currently paving today, and we are going to get the first block, so we’ll be off Center Street soon,” he said.

After daily work is finished at 5 p.m., the intersections along the work site are open with abrupt edges.

This is one of several large milling projects slated for the summer.

“Our next big overlay project we’ve for coming up on the 20th, and that’s going to be Treeline [Road],” Corne said.

That four-day project starts July 20 and will repair surfaces up to the west entrance to Lowe’s.

Another project on the horizon will be on Fourth Avenue East North.
