Minimum wage rules ought to be accompanied by minimum standards

| July 9, 2015 9:00 PM

Minimum wage has become a hot topic lately. Solutions are so simple but no one wants to simply say that business owners should have the right to hire the person who best fits their needs.

Minimum wage should also require minimum qualifications such as a  high school education, drug free testing, good professional appearance, pleasant personality, no visible piercings, tattoos, hair style, positive attitude, able to be at work on time as scheduling requires, driver’s license, etc.

OK so some employment may be at establishments that actually cater to these deviations from the “norm.” So be it. That is where they fit in best, so apply there.

How about a hospital with medical staff looking like a Halloween party? Would you feel safe and comfortable in that setting? How about the law enforcement, EMT’s, mayor and city council? You get my drift.

Guidelines need to be set for different “expectations” for different employment. Seems that most of the time that this is the case. So if you need a job and have a certain wage in mind, then get properly trained and have a valuable asset, yourself, to offer for that wage. No one owes you anything!

Look at the political scene and you will quickly see the results of when qualifications, drug testing, criminal background checks are not required!

Does AMERICA really want this free-for-all attitude to continue and bring us to our knees? Just asking. Please consider the lack of effort by those demanding more! —Ron Albrecht, Whitefish
