OPINION: Editor's view of history is right on

| July 10, 2015 9:00 PM

The “Asleep for the last 60 years?” piece in your paper by Managing Editor Frank Miele was right on target.

The problems of 1955 were certainly there, but interference by ukase from unelected black robes (and to be fair, other radical sources) have taken America from her being that Shining City on a hill to a souless mess.

It is time to reject those assaults on our liberty.

It won’t be pretty because standing up to a cesspool tide never can be.

While I’m not a churchgoer, I recognize the role religion played in the formation and sustenance of a truly exceptional nation. Christianity, like it or not, produces a self sustaining society.

Communism and its little brothers, socialism and fascism, do not. They spread misery and mediocrity.

Our nation was an exceptional nation because of our founding principles; we sink toward banana republic status because we continue to embrace “free stuff” rather than principle.

It’s time to become radical exponents of liberty and shout down the purveyors of lies and communism.

You just cannot be “nice” and win your country.

You must be active in opposition to what has and is being done to us. Never accept it, oppose it by civil disobedience and never give in. Ever. —Bob Hanks, Dallas

Congress has no business dictating education rules

Congressman Zinke and Sens. Daines and Tester, please show me where in YOUR articles of the U.S. Constitution, you as a Congress can MANDATE (with “opt-out” amendments that then punish states or localities) anything to do with public education in individual states.

There is no such phrase or clause in the many copies of the U.S. Constitution that I possess. You will have USURPED powers NOT delegated, if you vote(d) for this bill, HR5, or S1177.

No Child Left Behind is not the business of government, no matter how you spin it. Children do NOT belong to the “state.” Hitler did the same thing, stealing the youth from their parents, then turning them into spies to destroy any opposition to his fascist, imposed despotism. But, as we learned, he was suicide-by-proxy at the end...

Don’t let the same kind of thing happen here. We do not need clones of one form of “ideal child,” government approved, with implants and minds full of mush, running around this nation enforcing government edicts that no one wants, lock-step jack-booted morons, burning their way into anyone’s lives. —Jim Greaves, Thompson Falls
