Sarah 'Sally' Jane Hatfield, 84

| July 10, 2015 7:00 PM

Sarah “Sally” Jane Hatfield passed away on June 11, 2015, at her Kalispell home with her husband, Bob, at her side, following effects of congestive heart failure.

She was born at the Kalispell General Hospital on March 27, 1931, to Roy and Norma Waller. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1948 and the University of Montana in 1952.

While working in Casper, Wyoming, she met Bob on a blind date, and they were married November of 1953 at her parents’ home in Kalispell.

Sally worked for Jim Murphy and Cal Robinson as a legal secretary while Bob taught at Peterson School. In 1961, they moved to San Jose, California, with their children Cindy and Mark, where Bob taught while Sally worked as a transcriber for court reporting and a homemaker.

She continued the legacy of her grandparents, Frank and Minnie Linderman, by having his manuscripts published and models bronzed. She donated artifacts, placed his contributions at the Museum at Central School and corresponded with researchers. Sally’s passion was spending summers with her family at Lindermans’ homestead on Flathead Lake.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Cindy Farnsworth, and her children, Mason and Megan Farnsworth; son Mark Hatfield and his wife Terri, and their sons, Brayden and Riley, and her brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Melinda Waller.

Preceding her in death were her brothers, Rick and Jim Waller, and granddaughter, Breanna Hatfield.

A graveside service was held at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery on June 16.

Donations for Sally’s memory can be given to Home Options Hospice Care, the Kalispell Fire Department, the Museum at Central School or Rollins Fire Department.
