LETTER: Is putting up Ten Commandments a form of idolatry?

| July 18, 2015 8:15 PM

The editor’s July 12 column on Ten Commandments vandalism was spot on, yet incomplete. Defacing is never a good answer. Be it physical or figurative.

A couple of weeks ago I was taking visitor friends up to Glacier Park. He happened to be a Lutheran minister. Both he and wife are totally nice people. They both noticed the display. His comment was “Among certain folks there seems a consistent tendency to revert to idolatry in the face of God’s creation.”

I’m less religious than they are. They accept that... My thought was with Columbia Mountain, the river and all, in context of creation it was a point well made... I was thinking idolatry can be ugly even if the folks who put it up were well meaning. —James How, Kalispell
