Self-guided garden party features variety of landscapes

Flathead County Democratic Women are hosting the self-guided home garden tour Saturday, Aug. 1, in Kalispell and Somers.

The nine gardens feature a variety of garden designs from cottage and permaculture to meditative and oriental.

Guests will enjoys beverages and treats at each garden while strolling through landscapes accented by koi ponds, stone fountains and paths and frequented by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

One of the gardens on the tour, the Pennyroyal Collective in downtown Kalispell, is grown by a group of local advocates promoting an ecologically sustainable lifestyle, focusing on edible and medicinal herbs, fruits and vegetables.

Other gardens have expansive displays of colorful annuals and perennials, as well as extensive vegetable beds, fruit trees and more.

Tickets will also be available from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of the tour at 346 Third Ave. E., in Kalispell.
