Halgrim Hollo, 83, formerly of Fairfield, passed away at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton, July 18, 2015, surrounded by family.

He was born July 31, 1931, in Newfolden, Minnesota, to Jorgen and Matilda Hollo, who emigrated from Norway. Childhood days were spent in the Fairfield area working on the family homestead. He graduated in 1950 in Fairfield.

Though heavily recruited by colleges to play basketball, Halgrim chose to play for the Montana State Bobcats where he excelled and was well known for his “hook” shot and rebounding skills. His hard work, dedication and hustle earned him great respect, which also lead to his induction into the 2014 Bobcat Basketball Hall of Fame.

Halgrim served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War.

Halgrim’s careers over the years included teaching/coaching (Whitehall, Simms and Livingston), house construction (Livingston and Kalispell), and he owned and operated his own fishing boat named “Yashur” in Homer, Alaska.

Settling back in Fairfield to begin retirement, he spent his time following his beloved Bobcats in all sports, picking huckleberries and pursuing his lifelong passion for hunting and fishing.

Halgrim was preceded in death by parents, Jorgen and Matilda Hollo; sisters, Marie and Elsie May; and two children, Teena Conmy and Hans Hollo.

He is survived by two sons, Hal and Kirk Hollo; three daughters, Gail Shepard, Bobbi Pruttis and Kelsey Morris; siblings, Ingaborg, Karen, Edith, Janette, Edward and Nels; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In celebration of his life, a memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Sept. 12 at the New Life Community Church in Choteau.
