Lakeside boat show coming Aug. 7-9

The Big Sky Antique and Classic Boat Society has an exciting weekend of boating activities planned for its 10th annual Boat Show in Lakeside Aug. 7 to 9.

There will be a lineup of sleek, mahogany beauties from Stan Craft, Chris Craft, Lyman, Pen Yan, Switzer Craft, Fish Brothers, Century, Curly Craft and a number of owner-built craft.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, when the Wood Boat Parade gets under way.

Other highlights:

n Young children can enjoy model boat building from noon to 3 p.m. and Sunday at the Montana Wooden Boat Foundation show tent. Model building will be limited to the first 10 participants each day.

n The Montana Wooden Boat Foundation tent will display an 18-foot Old Town Cedar strip canoe from the Foundation’s restoration program.

n Meet John Eisenlohr, world champion land sailor, and see his new mini-ice sailboat geared for sailing on ice.

n There will also be remote-control model sailboat, paddle board and 40-foot dragon boat displays.

n The West Shore Visitors Bureau is also sponsoring a car show during the weekend at the Lakeside Town Center.

n Herb McAllister, creator of the boat show poster, will sign posters, as well as showcase his new Flathead Lake poster identifying the locations of early steamboats that went down in and around the lake.
