LETTER: Thanks for laughs

| July 22, 2015 9:00 PM

I almost died laughing at the editorial cartoon of Lincoln Chafee and Hillary Clinton in the July 21 paper. That captures Chafee accurately. As a resident of Rhode Island I can tell you that while governor of our proud state, Chaffee made a mockery of our institutions. Refusing to call a Christmas tree a Christmas tree he instead called it a “Holiday” tree. We are still not sure which holiday. That is one of many follies perpetrated on Rhode Island residents by “Governor Gump” as he was know.

What really drove home the humor of the editorial page was the letter that claimed only Clinton and Sanders speak for the 99 percent. Now THAT is funny. Clinton? Really? You mean the $250,000 speech giver, the multimillion dollar book fee, the billion-dollar foundation, the Russian ore deal? THAT Clinton speaks for the 99 percent?

Remember Montana, you didn’t build that. —Michael A. Salvadore Jr., Narragansett, Rhode Island
