A family was ferried to shore Wednesday evening after their boat ran aground in Flathead Lake.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said the cabin cruiser struck something in shallow water near Bigfork. It punched a hole in the hull and the boat started sinking.

“It went down just outside of the [Flathead] river channel,” Curry said.

A water rescue team was dispatched from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies brought the family of three to dry land and then worked to recover the boat.

The boat was in shallow water and didn’t fully submerge.

Curry said the boat was pulled out of the water and onto a trailer Wednesday night.

The people were Montana residents, according to Curry.
