Two arrested after midday car chase
A short car chase moved through Evergreen late Monday morning and ended with the arrest of two people.
Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said the car, a Honda, was believed stolen in Kalispell. A deputy attempted a traffic stop and the car took off east on U.S. 2.
The car was chased by deputies, Kalispell Police officers and the Two Bear Air helicopter.
Whitney Spencer, advertising administrator for the Daily Inter Lake, was pulling up to a line of 11 a.m. traffic on U.S. 2 when the chase blew past her.
Spencer said the car nearly hit her vehicle, swerving into the outside lane and then back. It passed around a couple more cars in line before slowing down in the traffic jam. She thought about reporting a reckless driver but then she saw a sheriff’s deputy not far behind.
The car sped off of the main road, Spencer said, nearly taking out two motorcyclists and throwing up dust.
“He was just flying,” Spencer said.
The pursuing deputy had to swerve to miss the motorcycles.
After just 10 minutes, the car stopped near Spruce Road in Evergreen and two suspects started running.
Law enforcement pursued on foot and arrested a 26-year-old man and a woman about the same age.
Curry said that the identities of the suspects were not immediately released and law officers still are investigating case.
