Bear Fair planned June 20 in Condon

Swan Valley Bear Resources will host an informational Bear Fair from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the MPG Ranch on Rumble Creek Road at mile marker 40.2 on Montana 83 in Condon.

The event will include presentations by Chris Servheen, U.S. Fish, Wildlife Service grizzly bear recovery coordinator; Tim Manley, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks grizzly bear management specialist; and Lori Roberts, Fish, Wildlife and Parks grizzly bear research biologist.

Topics will include the past, present and future status of grizzlies in the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem, grizzly bear management and conflicts, population monitoring and trends.

Jamie Jonkel, Fish, Wildlife and Parks wildlife conflict specialist, and representatives from the Vital Ground Foundation and Counter Assault will be on hand to answer questions and provide bear pepper-spray information. A representative from Gallagher Fence will demonstrate electric fencing techniques.

Light appetizers will be provide. Beer and wine will be provided. RSVPs are requested online at northwestconnections.org, swanecosystemcenter.org or call 406-754-3137.

A raffle will also be held; proceeds go to Swan Valley Bear Resources.

All are welcome but event organizers request that you leave your dogs at home. Carpooling is encouraged.
