Legion baseball: Libby sweeps Kootenai Valley
LIBBY — The Libby Loggers picked up a pair of wins at home on Friday night, sweeping the Kootenai Valley Rangers in an American Legion baseball double-header.
The Loggers jumped on Kootenai Valley early in Game 1 — a 7-2 victory — scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.
Libby’s Oliver Grupenhoff had a pair of RBIs in the opener, and pitcher Dylan Lane recorded five strikeouts to go along with his two-hit effort at the plate.
The Rangers cut their Game 2 deficit in half when Sam Hannay drove in a run in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 2-1 ballgame.
But that’s all the Loggers would allow, pushing one more run across in the bottom of the sixth for a 3-1 victory.
Tim Carvey had two hits for the Rangers while Colton Henrie and Hannay combined for five strikeouts on the mound.
Libby recorded just one hit in Game 2. Grupenhoff tallied his third RBI of the day in the night cap, the only run batted in for Libby in the contest.
The Loggers are back in action on Monday for a nine-inning game with the Glacier Twins at 6:05 p.m. in Whitefish.
Kootenai Valley travels to Polson for a doubleheader with Mission Valley on Tuesday.
