High of 95 ties temperature record
Another day, another temperature record for the Flathead Valley.
The mercury soared to 95 degrees Tuesday afternoon, tying the highest temperature on record for June 9. The earlier mark was set almost a century ago during a blistering heat wave in 1918.
Tuesday’s scorcher followed an 94-degree day on Monday that toppled a 1948 high-temperature record for June 8.
The heat wave sizzled across Northwest Montana Tuesday, with afternoon highs of 98 in St. Regis, 97 in Libby, 95 in Polson, 95 in Thompson Falls, 94 in Eureka and 93 in Condon, according the National Weather Service.
Some minor relief from the heat may be in store, according to Weather Service forecasts.
The high today is predicted to be 84, followed by 86 on Thursday and 80 on Friday.
The weekend forecast is for highs in the 70s in the Flathead Valley.
Other than a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today, there’s no precipitation in the forecast for the next four days.
