Two grizzly bears were put down Tuesday in the St. Ignatius area after attacks on cattle.

Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Wildlife biologists lethally removed two female yearling grizzly bears.

Tribal Wildlife biologist Stacy Courville said these bears were very habituated and were observed multiple times — at all hours of the day — by several people including Tribal Wildlife staff.

The grizzlies were implicated in multiple depredations on calves and were observed chasing calves. Biologists observed one of the bears chase a cow.

The status and whereabouts of the adult female grizzly are unknown.

People experiencing bear problems should call Tribal Dispatch at 675-4700.
