Kalispell Lakers A rode the strong pitching of Spencer Pisk to win the first game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader with the visiting Kootenai Valley Rangers on Thursday evening.

Pisk allowed six singles, struck out one batter and walked none in going the distance for a 3-2 victory.

Kootenai Valley came back to take the second game, scoring four times in the top of the seventh for a 7-3 win.

Colton Henrie was just as impressive on the mound in the opener for Kootenai Valley. He checked Kalispell on four hits, had eight strikeouts and walked five batters.

Jonas Nyman pitched the first six innings in Game 2 for Kalispell. He left the mound with the game tied at 3-all.

“Both our pitchers threw really well,” Lakers coach Jesse McFarland said.

“They only walked one batter between them in 13 innings.”

McFarland said the Lakers’ bats “were a little bit slow today, but I know they will bounce back.”

Brooks Krause had two of Kalispell’s four hits in the opener in two trips to the plate. He went 2 for 3 in the second game.

The loss drops Kalispell to 3-3 in league play. The Lakers host the Bitterroot Bucs on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
