Legion baseball: Wetsch, Murphy lead Twins to win

POST FALLS, Idaho — A.J. Wetsch tossed a 4-hitter and Tyler Murphy doubled and belted his first home run of the season as the Glacier Twins blanked the Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 8-0 on Friday at the Prairie Cardinal Tournament.

Wetsch fanned seven batters and walked just one in five innings on the mound.

The four hits he allowed were all singles.

Murphy went 2 for 2 and drove in two runs.

Glacier scored twice in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings. The American Legion baseball game ended on the tournament’s 8-run mercy rule.

Glacier pounded 11 hits, five going for extra bases.

Tristan Steinwand doubled while Vinny Smith and Colten Parker both tripled.

Glacier (15-8 overall) plays the East Valley Nights at Kroc Field in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, today at 10 a.m. and the Spokane Dodgers at Post Falls High School at 5:30 p.m. The tournament ends Sunday.

HELENA — Micah McClure doubled and drove in three runs as the Mission Valley Mariners dumped the Lethbridge Miners in first-day action at the Cloninger American Legion baseball tournament.

Also with extra-base hits for Mission Valley were Justin Young, a double, and Bransen Krebs, a triple. Both hitters had one RBI.

Young earned the win on thw mound.

Mission Valley scored in five innings, pushing four runs across the plate in the second.

Tournament play runs through Sunday.
