Legion baseball: Twins split Day 2 at Prairie Cardinal

POST FALLS, Idaho — The Glacier Twins split American Legion baseball play at the Prairie Cardinal Tournament on Saturday.

The Twins (16-9 overall) whipped the East Valley Knights 14-2 in a morning outing at  Kroc Field in Coeur d’Alene.

Jesse Walburn and Austin Robins combined on a 5-hitter for Glacier.

Walburn went the first three innings, allowing five hits and striking out four. He issued no walks.

Robins finished up the final two innings. He had three strikeouts and walked two.

Offensively, Robins went 2 for 3 while Walburn and James Sampson-Keck had two RBI each.

In the second outing, the Spokane Dodgers scored 10 runs in the final two innings for an 11-3 victory at Post Falls High School.

A.J. Wetsch had a perfect game at the plate for Glacier, going 3 for 3. He singled twice and doubled in his other at-bat.

The Twins had won seven straight heading into the contest with Spokane.

Glacier beat Gonzaga Prep Bullpups 8-0 on Friday in its tournament opener.

Tournament play winds up today.

HELENA — Laurel scored in every inning but the second to roll past Mission Valley’s Mariners during second-day action.

Mission Valley avoided the shutout with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

John Preller held Mission Valley to four singles. He fanned six Mariners and walked two in his five innings on the mound.

Tournament action winds up today.

Mission Valley won its tournament opener on Friday, 10-3 over Lethbridge, Alberta.

PULLMAN, Wash.  — The Kalispell Lakers AA wrapped up play by splitting their final two games.

Kalispell lost to the Seattle Stars 5-4 in nine innings in a morning contest. The Lakers then closed out action with a 9-5 victory over the Marysville Baseball Academy.

Had Kalispell beaten Seattle, the Lakers would have been in a three-way tie for second place in pool play with a shot at advancing to today’s championship round.

Kalispell went 1-3 at the tournament.

“We struggled from the dish,” Lakers manager Ryan Malmin said.

“We weren’t patient.”

Kalispell returns to conference play on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Lethbridge, Alberta.
