Rodeo: Schmid holds her ground

Heidi Schmid, a junior from Kalispell, used two solid performances to hold down the second spot in pole bending at the Montana High School Rodeo Finals at Majestic Valley Arena.

Schmid, who had a 21.14 time in the first go earlier in the week, came back with a 21.21 run on Saturday for a 42.35 total.

Celie Salmond of Choteau leads with her 40.31.

Salmond also leads goat tying with a 16.03 total.

Nichole Lake of Polson is sixth in goat tying, Tele Seemann of Polson is eighth in tie-down roping and Tyrell Toren of Kalispel is sixth in bull riding.

Toren had the top score Friday night with a 71.5 ride. He was bucked off during Saturday’ performance.

The finals end today with the short go (championship round) starting at 11 a.m.
