Whitefish Middle School creates dean position
Whitefish School District board has created a new dean of students position at Whitefish Middle School.
The dean will replace a current part-time assistant principal position held by Josh Coyne.
Coyne, whose time was split between the middle school and Muldown Elementary, will become a full-time assistant principal at the elementary school.
The dean of students also will be middle school activities director.
The administrative change was in response to increased enrollment at the elementary level, according to school board chairman Shawn Watts while continuing to provide support to the principal at the middle school level.
The dean will be responsible for discipline, helping students develop life skills and collaboration with parents, staff and administrators to make decisions that benefit students’ learning and well-being.
The district will start interviewing candidates for the new job this month.
