OPINION: Don't be silent in face of those tearing down country

| June 18, 2015 9:00 PM

Mr. Bill Payne, I have never met you but for some years I have appreciated your common sense letters to the editor.

I too live in Libby and join with many others asking you to reconsider your decision to stop writing. It seems that only a few people realize what condition our great country is in. The things we are losing that my fellow veterans gave their lives for will be very hard or impossible to regain.

The tragedy I witnessed on Clark Field in the Philippine Islands the first day Japan attacked us is as vivid now as then. P-40 pilots going out and starting their own planes while Japanese planes were strafing the base. The rest of us were in fox holes. Some of them died in their planes, some died by their planes. I have never read a word telling of their bravery. To let these progressives tear down our country while wading in the blood of these heroes sends an anger through me that is hard to control.

Bill, we need men like you to try to wake our people up before it is too late if it is not already too late. —L.A. Trotter, Libby
