Close finishes highlight Flathead Classic

Close competition marked the Flathead Classic Sled Dog Race that attracted 34 teams on Saturday and 30 teams on Sunday near Olney.

The six-dog, 13-mile race had only a 51-second difference between the top two finishers over two days of competition. In the two-dog skijoring race covering 4 miles, there was a 41-second difference between first and second places.  

The two-dog skijoring class had a photo finish on Sunday with 1 second separating the top finishers.

Mushers and skijoring competitors took home $3,250 plus plenty of prizes. The event raised money for the Olney Fire Department and canned goods for the Veterans Food Pantry.
