Renter returns to find new tenants

A Lakeside resident was out of town for eight months only to return to find people living in his home. The man told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that his place should be empty but was full of furniture. Deputies determined the property was legally rented by the new tenants.

A citizen was watching a trailhead near Columbia Falls through binoculars and watched a man get out of a truck with a loaded rifle. Deputies found the man, who said he had a valid wolf tag and was hunting.

A pile of rabbit carcasses was reported on Ashley Lake Road near Kila. According to the report, a suitcase full of yoga equipment and some mail were next to the bunnies. Deputies confiscated the items but left the carcasses.

Deputies gave a Helena Flats resident cleaning tips after she reported bear spray was all over her house.


The Kalispell Police Department returned a 911 hang-up call and heard from an elderly woman who said she needed to talk to the FBI. The Grandview Drive woman also told dispatch that there was smoke in the building. She wouldn’t give her name to police, but an officer checked out the location and determined everything to be OK.

A resident on Third Street West reported a burglary. He said that someone broke into his house and stole a gun on his bed.


The Columbia Falls Police Department responded to a report of a stolen phone from a Laundromat on Ninth Street West. The caller believed a “pregnant female took it.” She later discovered that the phone was in the back of her car.
