Treatment of residents 'terrible'

There is a cruel crisis occurring for 33 of the most disabled and elderly, the last the least the lost the lonely. Greenwood Village Assisted Living is handing out eviction notices to everyone with a 30-day notice, firing all the staff. Normally in such situations people are given at least 90 days for a chance to relocate.

What is to happen to all these old people? Many are in their 90s. Several have conditions like Parkinson’s. Many are in wheelchairs. How will they find a place to go? Who will help them? Relocation will probably literally kill some of the most elderly.

Just to hand out a 30-day eviction notice is a terrible thing to do to our elderly. To quote Thomas Hobbes, it is “nasty, brutish and short.” I hurt for all these elderly and the good employees who have so lovingly cared for us and who are now unemployed. Suddenly, lives are shattered.

I pray there really is such a thing as karma in our lives. It is a very sad day and a cruel way of handling things. —Judith Schenck, Kalispell
