Driver could have yelled 'fore'

A man was riding a bicycle near Montana 35 and minding his own business when he was struck by a golf ball. It was reportedly thrown from a passing pickup truck, the cyclist told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy located the suspect vehicle and counseled the registered owner, who denied any golf ball-related assault.

Two people suspected they might become dinner out on Tally Lake Road. Not only was their truck stuck, but the occupants claimed that they were “being stalked by either bears or wolves.” A deputy talked to the motorists, who eventually got the truck moving again.

Two area dogs were suspected in the killings of at least seven “show rabbits” on Citadel Lane. The owner of the rabbits followed one of the dogs back to its home. Deputies located one dog’s owner, who said the pooch had pushed open the door and escaped the previous night. The owner received a citation.

It wasn’t father-son bonding when a man called to report problems with his dad. The caller said his father was berating him and said he wasn’t allowed inside the house on Gunsite Loop. Deputies determined that they both had been drinking and separated them for the night.

Some people at a Montana 35 residence apparently didn’t know that dispatch was on the phone during a disturbance. According to the report, there was a lot of cussing and yelling. Someone asked for money and another mentioned a drug transaction. At one point they said they had to leave because the cops were coming. When deputies showed up, nobody appeared to be home.


A woman called the Whitefish Police Department to report that a mother was sitting in a Central Avenue bar with her young child. The caller said that the mother was sitting with a “known drug offender” and worried about the child’s safety. An officer advised the caller that nothing illegal appeared to have happened.


The Columbia Falls Police Department made extra rounds on Third Avenue West to corral three dogs that were reportedly chasing people. One man called police and reported that he and his wife were attacked by one of them.

A woman lost her wedding ring at a gym on Ninth Street West. She wanted to report the ring in case somebody tried to pawn it.


An off-shift worker handled a situation of pallet theft behind a north U.S. 93 business. While on the phone with the Kalispell Police Department, the caller confronted the pallet pilferer and got the person to return the goods.

A woman was reported as “very pregnant and very angry” by an employee of a south U.S. 93 business. The woman was apparently yelling at people and harassing customers, but police did not find her.

It was bedtime for around eight tired travelers resting in a van, but a West Idaho Street worker thought it suspicious. The worker told police that the van pulled up in the parking lot, but nobody came inside the business. An officer stopped by and found that the group was traveling and needed a place to stop and sleep for the night.

Police were called after a man showed up at a 10th Avenue West home at midnight and began pounding on the door. The resident didn’t know who the man was, but suspected he had been drinking. The man left after five minutes.

A Commons Way resident called police about a “large, oblong light in night sky, just hanging there.” An officer investigated and the report ends with an explanation: “Light in the sky is the planet Venus.”

Both southbound lanes were blocked for a while following a vehicle accident on U.S. 2 north of Kalispell.
