A pit bull/Labrador mix dog that bit an 18-month-old child in the face was euthanized on Friday, according to Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry.

On March 4, the dog wandered away from its owner’s property and approached the toddler on Mountain Drive in Hungry Horse.

It bit the child in the face, causing serious injuries including several puncture wounds. The child was airlifted to Kalispell Regional Medical Center for surgery and was released from the hospital on Friday.

Curry said that the dog’s owner volunteered the pet to be taken to the county animal shelter after the incident. The owner also consented to having the dog put down.
