The Family Forestry Expo kicks off for the 26th time this week at the Trumbull Creek Educational Forest between Columbia Falls and Whitefish.

From Monday through Friday, activities will involve nearly 1,200 students, with a public expo day on Saturday.

Fifth-graders from 30 schools from Eureka to Charlo will learn about natural resource topics, including fisheries, archaeology, wildlife, fire, plant identification and forest management.

On Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the expo opens to the public with family-friendly activities and exhibits that include educational stations, hands-on activities and demonstrations.

A grandstand show will feature logging equipment demonstrations, the Spotted Bear Ranger District mule pack string and a logging sports demonstration by the Flathead Valley Community College logging team.

Visitors to the expo can also check out exhibits from local organizations, businesses and agencies that deal with natural resources. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the expo will provide a free logging camp lunch.
