Oooh, that smell! Third floor vacated

There was a mysterious smell coming from the third floor of an East Center Street building, according to a report to the Kalispell Police Department. The caller said the stench was “choking people” and seemed chemical-based. Dispatch advised that the third floor should be evacuated.

A woman broke into a car on First Avenue West North and took “at least $12.” The owner of the car said suspect picked the lock with a knife.

Logs blocked traffic in Kalispell after the timber fell off of a truck. One of the logs damaged the windshield of a nearby car.

The driver of a pickup backed into a school van on Third Avenue East. No one was injured and the damage was minor.

An area kid isn’t a fan of flower power and allegedly has cut a West Washington Street resident’s stems on multiple occasions.

Someone reported an unoccupied car that was “snuggled” up against the railroad tracks on North Main Street. It was stickered for removal.

A woman reportedly found her ex-boyfriend with another woman in her car. She reported it stolen to police but ultimately pressed no charges.

Accidents happen, and this time it was a parent who locked her 2-year-old daughter in a car on Hutton Ranch Road.

An officer helped a dog that was tangled in some kind of fencing material.

Somebody witnessed a car hit a parked vehicle and drive off from a       U.S. 93 parking lot.

Officers responded to another report of a vehicle hitting a parked car, but this time the culprit didn’t drive off.  When authorities arrived, they found the offending car with all four tires off the ground and the  back end “on top of another vehicle.” 

A man went to the Department of Motor Vehicles to register a new motorcycle, which was flagged as stolen. Police helped sort out what was apparently misplaced paperwork about a salvaged vehicle.

Birds were flying as a driver passed another vehicle, and not the feathered kind. The driver reported the rude gestures.

Fire broke out under the hood of a Volkswagen bug on East Oregon Street. Responders put out the flame.

Someone walked up on three men purportedly trying to break into a U.S. 93 South business. Police located, cited and released them.


U.S. 93 stood between a relaxing pond and a duck with its ducklings, which concerned one caller. The endangered family was later corrctly identified as a goose with goslings, and a Whitefish Police Department officer responded.

A man who had speakers stolen out of his vehicle two months ago found them at a Whitefish pawn shop.

Police responded to a report of a van that was repeatedly backing up into traffic on U.S. 93.


The Columbia Falls Police Department received a report of a “student refusing to do what he is told” and who “won’t move” coming from 12th Avenue West.

It was dog versus cat during an animal quarrel on A Street West North.


A process server told the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office that a man pulled a gun on him at a house where he was serving.

There was a report of a lifted pickup that was dragging a trash can down Farm to Market Road.

A bed and dresser were reported stolen from a deceased man’s house.

Reports of an elderly man and woman drinking alcohol in a sport utility vehicle were unfounded. A deputy reportedly found them to be simply “enjoying the view.”

A dog running around Farm to Market Road was apparently keen enough to avoid a trap that animal control had set out. The resident requested that another trap be set.

A Helena Flats Road resident felt uneasy when the landlord placed cameras inside their shared home. Deputies told the resident that it isn’t a legal privacy concern unless cameras go into the bathroom or bedroom.

One resident of Zimmerman Road said that a neighbor “swerved” at his child while driving by. The driver had a “completely different” story in this ongoing neighborhood dispute.

It was slow-motion danger in a report of a sport utility vehicle that was swerving on Whitefish Stage Road but going 22 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Deputies stopped three people who were walking around on the roof of the old Walmart on U.S. 2 in Evergreen.

After seeing the April 27 law roundup the paper, a helpful citizen saw a bicycle that was previously reported stolen. A deputy reunited the six-foot-tall welded bike with its owner.
