The Flathead Valley Community Band and Columbia Falls Community Choir will present a “May Music Spectacular” concert on Wednesday, May 13, at the Flathead High School Auditorium in Kalispell.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. The choir is directed by Ron Bond and the band is directed by Allen Slater.

This will be the first time the two community groups will combine forces to perform.

The concert will consist of a variety of music.

The program includes individual works by each group and will culminate with a combined band and choir piece, “Pride of America — A Salute to our Armed Forces.”

This arrangement by Larry Clark and Greg Gilpin has music from all five branches of the military combined with American marches and familiar melodies.

Of special note will be the performance of a new piece of music, “Lullaby For A Sweet Soul,” by local composer Craig Thomas Naylor.

“This lovely song is in memory of Pearl,” Naylor said in a press release. “Pearl was my dog and she was about as close to being human as a critter can be and still have four legs and fur. As I was composing the lullaby, I also reflected about all the gentle and sweet souls I have been blessed with in my life — my grandmother, grandfather  and many, many other radiant people who have crossed my path. I carry them in my heart each and every day.”

Wednesday’s concert is free and open to the public.
