Bike tour to look at Smith Lake birds

| May 12, 2015 9:00 PM

Join a local bird expert for a bike ride and birding adventure at the Smith Lake Waterfowl Production Area on Saturday.

Craig Hohenberger will guide the free event, in which participants will have the opportunity to view the birds that use the 1,600-acre wetland complex and learn more about conservation projects that have expanded the protection of important bird habitat in the area.

Participants should meet at the Kila Pub at 9 a.m. on May 16.

Mountain or fat-tire bikes are recommended since the 8.5-mile route will include both paved and gravel roads.

Bikes can be rented from Wheaton’s in Kalispell or Glacier Cyclery in Whitefish for the day. Bring a bike helmet, appropriate clothing, water and binoculars.

To RSVP, contact Laura Katzman of the Flathead Land Trust at 752-8293 or by email at lkatzman@bigsky.net.
